Three arrests during plain-clothes city centre operation

Not every patrol is in uniform — but your local team is out there tackling the issues affecting your community.

On 23 September, our officers carried out a plain-clothes operation in and around Chinatown, the Northern Quarter and Piccadilly Gardens, with a further arrest made in Spinningfields.

The operation focused on antisocial behaviour, drug-related offending, street drinking, knife crime and public order issues affecting people who live, work and visit the city centre.

Chinatown was quiet during our visits. Officers returned at different times and also patrolled other nearby areas where problems were being encountered.

Results from the operation:

• 21 stop searches, with drugs found in six of those searches.
• Three arrests, including an arrest on suspicion of drug-supply offences.
• 15 stop-and-account encounters.
• Action under the Public Spaces Protection Order involving five people, including alcohol being removed or disposed of in relation to four people and advice given about aggressive begging.

A woman was arrested in Spinningfields on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, along with a driving offence. Two men were also arrested — one on suspicion of assault and another in connection with a wanted-person circulation.

The six positive stop searches led to six drug offences being recorded. Five were dealt with by community resolution, with one further offence being progressed by summons. Officers also submitted six intelligence reports to support further work tackling drug-related offending.
